New Free Sydney Music Festival Announced
Daisy Magazine - May 16, 2016
If you live in Sydney and you love music, you’re in for a real treat. On one big day in June, New South Wales peeps will be blessed with a free music event as part of Vivid 2016 — the world’s largest festival of light music and ideas. VISIONS Festival will kick off with a massive local line-up featuring Kirin J Callinan, Deep Sea Arcade, Montaigne, Gideon Bensen, These New South Whales, Flyying Colours and heaps more.
Curated by Deep Sea Arcade in conjunction with Chugg Music and Rare Finds, the event aims to unite Australian new-music lovers with a line-up of local artists who are “pushing boundaries in psychedelia, garage-rock, electronic and everything-alternative”.
Not only is the line-up convincing in itself, but the event is free, making it almost mandatory to get involved.
The festival will take place on June 4th in the inner-city suburb of Chippendale between Fredas and The Lord Gladstone. It runs from 12pm and while entry is free, it’s limited to availability on the day — so get in early!
Although this marks Visions’ first official festival, the organisation has hosted over 15,000 punters in its first two years across a variety of 250-500 capacity venues in Sydney. Some of their highlights include showcasing secret headline sets (The Preatures, Deep Sea Arcade, The Creases) after-parties (DMAs), DJ sets (SPLASHH, DZ Deathrays, Bluejuice), a launch party at Australia’s largest music conference BIGSOUND and main stage festivities at King Street Crawl in Newtown last year.
